What is New

New Curbside Service Options Available with a Refuse and Recycling Cart Provided
at No Additional Charge.  In keeping with the City of Highland Park’s green initiatives, the City has again chosen a volume-based refuse collection program that promotes recycling. As you know, Highland Park is one of the leaders in Lake County when it comes to recycling. All of the service options listed below include collection of an unlimited amount of recyclable materials. Because of this, residents have the ability to control the cost they pay for refuse collection. The more you recycle, the less you pay. The six service options can be summarized as follows: three service options at the curb and the same three service options at the backdoor. They are volume-based (stickers), 1x/wk subscription service and 2x/wk subscription service. The details of each service type are explained below:

3 Curbside Options

Option #1- Volume-Based at the Curb (Stickers) @ $2.35/Sticker + $5.00/month (Click here for complete service description)

Option #2- Once per Week Curbside Subscription Service @ $23.96/month (Click here for complete service description)

Hardship Customer:

Residents may apply in limited instances for hardship status. If a customer qualifies for hardship status, the customer may elect to receive Once per Week Back Door Subscription Service at the Once per Week Curbside Subscription Service rate. No other service options will be discounted. In order to qualify residents must meet the following criteria:

A “Hardship Customer” is a Customer who is physically unable to place refuse containers at the curb and has no family member or other person living in the residence that are able to place refuse and/or recycling containers at the curb.

Before applying for hardship status, please note that each customer electing curbside service will be receiving both a wheeled refuse cart and wheeled recycling cart for easy transport of refuse and recycling to the curb. Because carts are being provided, residents will not be required to carry their refuse or recycling to the curb unless they elect to use they own cans and bins. Virtually all residents will be able to roll these carts to the curb.

Veolia will review each request on a case by case basis to determine if a residence qualifies for hardship status. Veolia will contact residents who wish to qualify for hardship status using the contact information provided in the survey response.
